Hilary Swank stars in a controversial role in her latest film

Hilary Swank
Hilary Swank stars in a controversial role in her latest film. "Conviction". The following review of the film comes from a Boston Globe Writer who gives Hilary Swank and the film a B+ grade. From the review: Who killed Katharina Brow, and is Hilary Swank her generation's Meryl Streep? These are the questions you might ask yourself after watching Tony Goldwyn's Ayer, Massachusetts iinspired, true-crime-and- redemption drama "Conviction."

Beginning more or less with the 1983 conviction of Kenneth Waters for the gruesome murder of neighbor Brow, the film is a genuinely moving experience, a tribute to great acting and a movie Attorney General Martha Coakley probably wishes hadn't come in an election year. The supporting cast - Juliette Lewis, Minnie Driver, Melissa Leo, Peter Gallgher and Karen Young - is wondrous.

Kat Von D proclaimed her love for Jesse James

Kat Von D
Kat Von D has fueled rumors she’s split from Sandra Bullock’s ex-husband Jesse James — after she hit the red carpet alone for the Los Angeles premiere of the new Jackass movie earlier this week.

Kat Von D proclaimed her love for Jesse James only last month, but is trouble already brewing between the tattooed twosome?

The couple were last seen together lunching at The Counter in West Hollywood on Oct. 3. At the time, “they looked very happy and kept kissing,” a source tells PEOPLE.

But a source says that Kat Von D isn’t happy about James’s having moved to Austin, Texas, and is losing patience with their “weekend fly-back-and-forth relationship.” And since the pair’s last outing, the L.A. Ink star, 28, has been spotted getting close to other guys.

On Oct. 5 during a Slash concert at the House of Blues, Von D was seen hanging out in the V.I.P. section with her ex-boyfriend Nikki Sixx. “They were on the balcony chatting and ended up disappearing together,” a source tells PEOPLE. “They were acting pretty cozy and chummy.”
Kat Von D and Jesse James

This week, Von D was “smiling and flirting over an intimate dinner” at the Redbury Hotel’s Cleo restaurant in Hollywood, with rumored former love interest Bam Margera. “They were being very sweet to each other,” an onlooker says. “They didn’t hang around for long, and after a quick cigarette break, they made a dash for the exit.”

A source says Von D and Margera, who is married, “are not more than friends.” They both attended Wednesday night’s Jackass 3D premiere in L.A., where Von D once again spent time with her ex, Nikki Sixx.

The American League Championship Series, Yankees rally

Yankees rally

Fifty thousand people stood, stunned. It had happened so quickly, so easily. With the Rangers seemingly gliding to a win in their first trip to the American League Championship Series, with the Yankees staring at a must-win Game 2 before facing Cliff Lee in Game 3, the eighth inning brought everything to a halt.

It was in that disaster of an inning — one that could be responsible for the Rangers’ demise in this series — that New York scored five runs against five Rangers pitchers before recording an out. They took the lead and soon closed out a 6-5 victory, a crushing blow for a Texas team that lacks the history and experience of the Yankees.

“It’s a great win for our club,’’ New York manager Joe Girardi said. “We start scratching and you get a double by [Derek Jeter] and guys start putting good at-bats and you get the walk and double. It’s a huge win.

“Some might feel we were fortunate to come out with a win to night, but I thought our club played hard and kept playing and playing and playing. And [we’ll] try to build on it tomorrow.’’

As the Rangers cycled through starter C.J. Wilson and relievers Darren Oliver, Darren O’Day, Clay Rapada, and Derek Holland in the eighth, the Yankees went single, double, walk, walk, single, single, single, and suddenly Texas’s lead, once at 5-0, was gone. It was the largest comeback in an ALCS game since the Red Sox rallied from a seven-run deficit in Game 5 against the Rays in 2008.

Perhaps the biggest hit in the eighth was the first, as Brett Gardner reached on an infield hit on what Wilson called a “kung-fu’’ swing. The Yankees just seemed to roll after that.

“For us all to not get the job done today, it was an aberration,’’ O’Day said. “We know we’re better than that. We’ll be better than that the rest of the series.’’

The message was not defeat in the Rangers’ clubhouse.

“It’s not devastating at all,’’ Young said. “We lost Game 1. We’ll come back and play hard in Game 2.’’

The Yankees won without much help from their ace, CC Sabathia, who gave up five runs in just four innings. It was his shortest outing of the season, and he had little command from the start. Of the 21 batters Sabathia faced, he got to a three-ball count on nine of them, increasing his pitching count and decreasing his effectiveness.

It seemed as if the Rangers were on their way to a win. Then came the eighth.

“I don’t know if we gave it away,’’ Rangers manager Ron Washington said. “We just didn’t execute. When you face a team like the Yankees there, you’ve got to execute. We didn’t execute. It certainly was our ballgame, especially when you just need six outs. We didn’t get them. So I guess in a sense it got away from us. But gave it away? No. We just didn’t execute.’’

The Rangers jumped on Sabathia in the first inning as leadoff hitter Elvis Andrus reached on a walk and Young singled. That brought up Josh Hamilton, and prompted “MVP!’’ chants in the Ballpark at Arlington. And Hamilton delivered, sending a laser-beam home run into the right-field corner for three runs.

The Rangers loaded the bases with two outs in the inning, but that threat ended with perhaps the most crucial play of the game. When a high pitch that eluded Yankees catcher Jorge Posada went to the backstop, Nelson Cruz darted for the plate. Posada quickly grabbed the carom and fired to Sabathia, who used a quick, athletic play to tag Cruz before he touched the plate with his back leg. Texas built its lead to 5-0 in the fourth inning on a two-run double by Young. .

And with Wilson dealing on the mound, that cushion seemed insurmountable, even for the Yankees.

The film — a wartime love story between a Bosnian woman and a Serbian man and Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie
AP
Bosnia-Herzegovina – Angelina Jolie said Friday she would like to meet with wartime rape victims and clarify misunderstandings that have led authorities in Sarajevo to deny her a permit to shoot her directorial film debut in Bosnia.

"My hope is that people will hold judgment until they have seen the film," the Hollywood actress said in a statement Friday.

Bosnian authorities have denied Jolie a permit to shoot her film amid protests by rape victims who object to its alleged subject matter.

The film — a wartime love story between a Bosnian woman and a Serbian man — was supposed to be shot partly in Bosnia in November. However, Jolie's producer says rumors spread that the film was about a rape victim who falls in love with her rapist. Jolie's Sarajevo producer, Edin Sarkic, said Friday the rumors were not true. He said he has resubmitted the application and sent the film's full script to Sarajevo's culture minister and expects to get a permit.

Culture Minister Gavrilo Grahovac revoked the original permit this week under pressure from the Association of Women, Victims of War that represents the several thousand mainly Muslim Bosniak women who were raped during Bosnia's 1992-95 war.

The head of the association, Bakira Hasecic, told The Associated Press that she has not read the script but "from what I heard, it is about a victim in a rape camp falling in love with her rapist, and that's not only impossible but the idea is insulting."

The beautiful Marisa Miller, was named the new NFL Spokesperson

Marisa Miller
Marisa Miller-The beautiful former Victoria's Secret and Sports Illustrated model, was named the new NFL Spokesperson.  Not surprisingly and unbeknownst to the rest of us, Marisa Miller was always a tomboy dressed in skimpy swimsuits!"I'm so excited to have this incredible opportunity to partner with the NFL," Marisa says. "I've grown up watching football my whole life."

This of course comes on the heels of another very attractive reporter getting harassed by players from the New York Jets. Perhaps the NFL is testing it's players resolve or maybe it's just good old double standard.

Kathie Lee is not a diva, Hoda Kotb says in the book

Hoda Kotb
Hoda Kotb, a 46-year-old Oklahoma native made her comments in her new memoir Hoda: How I Survived War Zones, Bad Hair, Cancer and Kathie Lee, which was released on Tuesday.

"Kathie Lee is not a diva," Kotb says in the book, according to an excerpt posted on The Today Show's website. "She's always on time and she comes to play. She asks everyone about their family and friends and keeps up with all the happenings. She sings to me every morning when she strolls into the makeup room to the tune of Oklahoma!"
Hoda Kotb and Gifford began co-hosting The Today Show's fourth hour together in 2008. Kotb in says that she sits next to Gifford on her right side because her co-host sat to the left of Regis Philbin when she co-hosted Live with Regis and Kathie Lee between 1988 and 2000. Gifford had left the show to pursue a singing career and was replaced by Kelly Ripa."It's like sleeping on the usual side of the bed for her,"  Hoda Kotb said. "And for me, it's a little like sitting next to Regis. Kathie Lee has settled nicely into the role of Velvet Barb Thrower. And I'm the bull's-eye."

She also said Gifford has poked fun at her love life and her weight and dubs her "Hoda Woman" and "Egyptian Goddess," referring to her ethnicity.

"Can Kathie Lee be a pain in my ass?" Kotb said. "Yes. Some days I want to take her to the mat and stick gum in her hair. But, love her or hate her, Kathie Lee knows how to do live talk television. And don’t worry about me, I can take whatever she dishes."

Condoleezza Rice admits mistakes, but not in memoir

Reuter
The former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice admits the Bush administration made mistakes after the September 11 attacks but readers seeking Condoleezza view on the decisions leading to the war in Iraq will find no such grist in her new memoir.

Condoleezza Rice
"We made our mistakes undoubtedly," the former Secretary of State told Reuters in an interview to promote her memoir "Extraordinary, Ordinary People," published on Tuesday in the United States.

But Condoleezza Rice remains proud of the achievements of the administration of President George W. Bush."For an administration, for which every day after September 11 was September 12, and every day you thought it was going to happen again. I am very grateful that we were able to do what we were able to do," she said.

Unlike former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, whose recent memoir made headlines for his assertion that he does not regret joining the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, Rice does not address her role in helping lead America to wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in her memoir.

The memoir is the first of two planned volumes and reflects on her parents raising her as an only child in the race-fueled 1950s and 1960s American South. It also tells the story of how the education promoted by her parents -- both teachers -- led to her becoming the first black U.S. Secretary of State.

The book ends with her appointment as National Security Advisor nearly eight months before the 9/11 attacks.

Her second memoir due next year will address her political life, but Rice said it will be years before the Bush administration can be fairly judged.

"Since history has a long arc, we will have to come back and see what succeeded and what failed," she told Reuters.

KARZAI CAUTIONED ON TALIBAN
While the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have run long after many had hoped they would end, Rice said she was "not surprised it has taken this long."

"Afghanistan was always going to be hard," she said.

"I know we are struggling in Afghanistan but women are not being executed in soccer stadiums today ... and girls are going to school in Afghanistan and al Qaeda doesn't' have a stronghold."

She said she was "not close enough" to know all the details of any proposed peace negotiations between Afghan President Hamid Karzai and the Taliban, but urged caution in the talks.

"I sincerely hope that we remember what the Taliban was and is and, if you go down that road, you better be very sure you are doing it from a position of strength," she said.

Liu Xiaobo's wife fears China may prevent Nobel prize collection

Guardian.co.uk
The wife of the imprisoned Nobel laureate Liu Xiaobo fears the Chinese government will prevent her from collecting the peace prize on her husband's behalf amid rising anger in Beijing at the announcement.Liu Xia said police officers had surrounded her home and warned her that she could not leave without a minder."They have told me not to go out, not to visit friends. If I want to see my parents or buy food, I can only go in their car," she said. "I don't even talk to my neighbours because I don't want to get them into trouble."

During a prison visit on Sunday, Liu Xiaobo asked her to collect the prize at the ceremony in Oslo, Norway, on 10 December. But she was doubtful she would get as far as the airport.

AFP
As soon as dissident Liu Xiaobo was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, China's censorship machine kicked in to suppress the news, but not even that could muzzle web users, especially those on Twitter.

When the prize was announced on Friday in Oslo, the communist regime's propaganda department moved quickly to prevent any mention in its media -- television, radio, press, phone services and the Internet were all affected. Those who attempted to send text messages containing Liu's Chinese name found them blocked.

Initial reports on Liu on foreign networks such as CNN, BBC and French satellite channel TV5 were blacked out. And on popular Chinese web portals such as Sina or Sohu, the Nobel announcement was nowhere to be seen.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Warner Bros on Friday said it abandoned plans to convert the next Harry Potter movie to 3-D, bringing mixed reactions from box office watchers and fans of the multibillion-dollar blockbuster franchise.

The Hollywood studio said it was unable to produce a 3-D version of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I" in time for its release on November 19.

The movie will be presented only in conventional 2-D and in Imax theaters, but the second installment, due to be released in July 2011, is still set to be released in 2-D and 3-D.

"Despite everyone's best efforts, we were unable to convert the film in its entirety and meet the highest standards of quality," Warner Bros. said in a statement.

The six previously released Harry Potter movies, based on the best-selling novels by author J.K. Rowling, have raked in an estimated $5.4 billion at the worldwide box office.

"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince", released in 2-D in 2009, earned $933 million worldwide at the box office. "Deathly Hallows; Part 1" is expected to do about the same figure, Hollywood sources said.

Holly Madison’s Best Breast Moments

Holly Madison is a Playboy pin-up with with platinum-blond hair who’s starring in a striptease show in Las Vegas. OK, let’s be real, I just described half the population of the Vegas strip. But Holly’s not your typical bunny in a corset with a fur ball on her ass. Out of all the girls who throw themselves at Hugh Hefner, she became his Girlfriend No. 1. Still, cynics yap about her being nothin’ special among a field of Playmates who simply have manufactured hotness. *yawn* Who cares? Her big beaming twos are still tens. Done.

Will Smith's nine-year-old daughter, Willow smith, has signed a record

Will Smith's nine-year-old daughter, Willow, has signed a record deal with rapper Jay-Z's label Roc Nation.

Her first single, Whip My Hair, has already been viewed nearly a million times on YouTube since its release in the US this week.

Jay-Z told US radio host Ryan Seacrest he thought she would be a "superstar".

"I heard the record first before I knew it was recorded by a nine-year-old and I was like, 'man that record's a smash'."

The rapper, who compared Willow with a young Michael Jackson, said: "She has a child's innocence but she has a clear vision of who she is and who she wants to be."

However the rapper - who signed R&B artist Rihanna when she was a teenager - brushed aside suggestions that the nine-year-old may be too young to launch a music career.

"When you have that sort of talent, there is no such thing as too young," he said.

In a statement, Roc Nation said Willow had "an energy and enthusiasm about her music that is truly infectious" adding it was "rare to find an artist with such innate talent and creativity at such a young age".

It is not Willow's first foray into show business - she appeared in 2007's I Am Legend with her father.

She also voiced a character in animated film Madagascar 2.

Her 12-year-old brother, Jaden, starred in the remake of The Karate Kid earlier this year.

"Circus" singer Britney Spears is denying allegations that she sexually harassed

"Circus" singer Britney Spears is denying allegations that she sexually harassed former bodyguard Fernando Flores and says an investigation regarding allegations of child abuse is already closed.

"This lawsuit is another unfortunate situation where someone is trying to take advantage of the Spears family and make a name for himself," Spears said in a statement posted to her Web site Thursday after details of Flores' lawsuit were leaked Wednesday to TMZ.com.

"The Department of Children and Family Services conducted a proper investigation surrounding Mr. Flores' accusations and have closed the case without further action."

Spears did not say when the investigation was conducted. The department doesn't release details of its inquiries.

Flores said in his lawsuit that Spears repeatedly exposed herself to him and made other unwanted sexual advances. He also said she used his belt to discipline her young sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and behaved inappropriately in front of them on various occasions.

According to Flores' court filings, he began working for Spears in February but left her security detail in June. He's seeking unspecified damages and also is suing his former employer, Advanced Security Concepts Corp.

The first hearing in his case is scheduled for Jan. 25.
