Slumdog Millionaire News






The actors, 10-year-old Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail and 9-year-old Rubina Ali, were flown to Los Angeles for the ceremony.

Their friends at home watched on television. "My eyes couldn't believe that I was seeing Rubina in America," said Saba Qureshi, Rubina's best friend.

Even though the movie has kids in starring roles, "Slumdog Millionaire" is rated R, which means it is not a movie for kids. Overall, the movie won eight awards, which are known as Oscars.


Children in a desperately poor neighborhood of India cheered and broke out into dance yesterday after learning that "Slumdog Millionaire," a movie starring two boys from their neighborhood, won the Academy Award for Best Picture of 2008.

Another big winner at the Sunday night awards, which are given every year, was the movie "Wall E." It won for Best Animated Feature Film, beating "Bolt" and "Kung Fu Panda."

"Slumdog Millionaire" is about a poor teenager from Mumbai, India. He becomes a contestant on the Indian version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" and is accused of cheating.

Two of the child actors in "Slumdog Millionaire" live in Bandra, one of Mumbai's slums. About 65 million p
eople live in very poor slums in India.
