Being New Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is making the first stop of her week-long Asian tour in Japan. It's her first official trip overseas.
The secretary left Washington D.C. Sunday and arrived in Tokyo this morning.
She'll go wheels up for Indonesia Wednesday then hops to South Korea Thursday and to Beijing Friday.
The State Department says during her journey Clinton will be discussing "common approaches to the challenges facing the international community."
While in Tokyo over the next two days she'll meet with Japanese officials to discuss continuing cooperation between the two countries. She'll sign off on a deal moving eight-thousand U.S. military personnel currently stationed in Japan to Guam, an attempt to ease frictions created by a non stop American troop presence in Japan since the end of World War Two.
In Beijing later in the week she's likely to bring up the subject of human rights although the global financial crisis is expected to be her top priority.
The subject of North Koreas nuclear aspirations is likely to come up while she's in Seoul.
Secretary Clinton is scheduled to head back to Washington next Sunday. Read more atarkansasmatters.com.
