Robert O'Ryan was arrested by Los Angeles police on Tuesday

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A restraining order has been issued against a man authorities say tried to break onto the set of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" to meet Shawn Johnson.

Court records show an order was issued against Robert O'Ryan, who was arrested by Los Angeles police on Tuesday. According to documents that accompanied the restraining order application, O'Ryan was stopped by security at CBS Studios, the lot where "Dancing With the Stars" is staged, after he jumped on a fence on Monday afternoon.

Police later searched his car and found a shotgun and handgun — both loaded — as well as duct tape and love letters.

A sworn statement by Johnson's mother, Teri, states that she was told by police that he believed he was meant to have a child with her daughter.

Johnson, 17, is a gold medalist in gymnastics, and one of the celebrity contestants on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars."

She is "in fear of her life," her parents' attorney wrote in a restraining order application.

The application had sought protection for Johnson's partner, Mark Ballas, but he was not included in the restraining order issued Wednesday.

Her parents requested and were granted the restraining order on Wednesday. A hearing on whether to grant a lengthy restraining order will be held April 14.

O'Ryan, 34, is being held on $35,000 bail on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in public (a felony). Court records do not indicate whether he has a lawyer.

The records state that he told security guards and police that he packed up all his belongings and traveled to California from Florida in the hopes of being with Johnson.

A report by security guards at CBS Studios states that O'Ryan was carrying an expired concealed weapons permit.

A call placed to an ABC spokeswoman was not returned Wednesday.

Two-goal Crouch revives Portsmouth hopes

Portsmouth 2 Everton 1
THE one club out of the leading nine in the country that Portsmouth had beaten hitherto this season were Everton, a result that they repeated, somewhat laboriously, in this lunchtime match.

Two goals by Peter Crouch, both achieved through his sheer height rather than any dextrous positioning or athleticism, brought this about after Portsmouth had conceded a goal in the opening minutes.

Hence Everton became the first club in the Premier League to suffer 250 defeats, a surprising statistic to follow Sir Alex Ferguson’s assertion that David Moyes is one of the three managers he regards most highly.

They had little to offer other than from set-pieces and the lethal swing of Leighton Baines’s left boot. Jo and Louis Saha in particular were on the periphery of such action as there was.

Everton, who gave a debut to Lars Jacobsen in defence, took the lead through his fellow full-back, Baines, after four minutes. A delightfully taken goal it was, too. A free kick just outside the penalty area was curled in off the left-hand post, David James failing to deal with the trajectory of the ball.

This was, it must be said, the sole chance Moyes’s team had in the first half other than a scuffed left-foot attempt by Jo. Nor was their passing all it might have been after the interval. “We allowed Portsmouth to take the initiative and we were always lacking a bit of spirit and punch. Our squad is smaller than it should be,” Moyes said.

Portsmouth were level 18 minutes later. Crouch’s height often appears underutilised, but not now as he reached Glen Johnson’s opportunistic flick across goal They might have gone ahead early in the second half when David Nugent, deployed here on the left wing, with Niko Kranjcar playing in an advanced midfield role, had a shot blocked by Tim Howard’s legs.

They took the lead after 75 minutes when Crouch out-jumped Marouane Fellaini at the far post to reach Sean Davis’s corner and score his 11th league goal of the season.

All in all, though, this smacked of a contest between one team that had reached its zenith for the season and another who have made a precipitous descent down the table. Portsmouth should remain in the Premier League, if only just.

“I am not surprised – I can make a case for winning every match we have played,” said Paul Hart, Portsmouth’s manager. “I think we deserve credit for stopping Everton from playing, as they had lost only once in their past 18 matches, and that was to Manchester United.

“I am expecting that level of performance to be maintained for the rest of the season and if everyone sticks to their responsibilities, we’ll be okay. Peter Crouch? He is a cracking player.”

England women gear up for final

ICC Women's World Cup final, North
Sydney Oval: England v New Zealand

Date: Sunday, 22 March Start time: 2300 GMT (21 March)
Coverage: Live ball-by-ball commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra and online at bbc.co.uk/cricket (UK only). Live text commentary on BBC Sport website & mobiles. Also live on Sky Sports.

England captain Charlotte Edwards says her players will not be complacent going into Sunday's ICC Women's World Cup final in Sydney.

England take on New Zealand, who they have already beaten in the tournament (match starts 2300 GMT, Saturday).

"They are a good side and we won't underestimate them," insisted Edwards. "We go into the final on par."

England have twice before lifted the World Cup, both times on home soil, in 1973 and again in 1993.

And Edwards is under no illusion as to the importance of the occasion for her and the team.

"Sunday is going to be the biggest day of our lives and we cannot wait for it," she said. "It's going to be a huge game for us and one that we are determined to win."

Edwards also revealed that the side had been boosted by messages of support from counterpart Andrew Strauss.

"Andrew Strauss and (England Lions captain) Rob Key have been in touch. We've had some really nice messages from some of them and it's been a real lift," she said.

She also admitted that the reception the side have received from the crowds in Australia has helped them on their run to the final.

"The reception from the Australians has been great since we arrived and I think they'll be supporting us on Sunday.

"We seem to have gone down well with the crowds and the public - they seem to have respect for us which is great."

England secured their place in the final with a 146-run victory over West Indies on Tuesday, although they were beaten by Australia - their first defeat in 17 matches - in their final group game.

New Zealand booked their berth on Thursday following a win over Pakistan by 223 runs.

In the Super Six stage of the tournament England beat New Zealand by 31 runs, thanks largely to Edwards herself who scored 57 and took 4-37.

Victory in the final would cap a fantastic year for the side.

They have recorded an Ashes victory over Australia and one-day series victories over New Zealand, West Indies, South Africa and India in the last 12 months.

Eight of the England squad in Sydney have World Cup experience having played in the last tournament in 2005, where the side were beaten in the semi-finals by Australia.

Natasha Richardson

Actor
Born:
May 11, 1963 in London, England, UK
Death:
March 18, 2009

The daughter of British actress Vanessa Redgrave and director Tony Richardson, Natasha Richardson was named for the heroine in Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace. Richardson made her film bow at age four, playing one of her own mother's bridesmaids in Charge of the Light Brigade (1968), which was directed by her father. Trained at the Central School for Speech and Drama, Richardson did her first professional stage work at the Leeds Playhouse in 1983 then went on to specialize in Shakespeare (like virtually everyone else of Redgrave lineage) at the Old Vic. In the company of her mother Vanessa and her Aunt Lynn, Richardson made an excellent impression in a 1985 staging of Chekhov's The Three Sisters; the following year, she won the London Theatre Critics Award for Most Promising Newcomer. The honor was a trifle belated, as Richardson had been acting on stage for three years and costarring in films since 1984's Every Picture Tells a Story. Her film roles have ranged from passive to aggressive but have always been distinctive. Among Richardson's most memorable film assignments have been A Month in the Country (1987), The Handmaid's Tale (1990), Widows Peak (1994), and the successful 1998 remake of The Parent Trap. She has done her most celebrated work on the stage, appearing in a 1993 performance in a PBS restaging of Suddenly Last Summer; an acclaimed Broadway revival of Eugene O'Neill's Anna Christie that same year (in which she starred opposite then-lover and eventual husband Liam Neeson); an incredibly popular 1998 Broadway revival of Cabaret, in which she gave a Tony-winning portrayal of Sally Bowles; and the 1999 Broadway production of Patrick Marber's Closer, in which she starred alongside Rupert Graves, Anna Friel, and Ciaran Hinds. Richardson died in a skiing accident in 2009. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Natasha Richardson Died From Clot That Compressed Brain

Natasha Richardson, the British actress who fell during a ski lesson on Monday and later in the day lapsed into a coma, died of a large blood clot compressing her brain, New York City's medical examiner said yesterday.
The bleeding that led to the clot was caused by "blunt impact to the head," according to the official report, which also labeled the death an accident.

The formal name for the condition is "epidural hematoma." It is usually the result of bleeding from arteries torn when the skull is struck hard, often on the temple where the bone is thinnest.

Arterial hemorrhage inside the skull is a potential catastrophe. Each heartbeat pumps blood under high pressure into a confined space, compressing the brain tissue.

"It is the most feared, treatable problem in neurosurgery," said Gail Rosseau, chief of surgery at the Neurologic and Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago. "These are the patients who 'talk and die.' "

If the condition is recognized in time, a surgeon can drill a hole through the skull or cut away a piece of it, remove the clot and relieve the pressure. This often results in complete recovery.

Although many details of Richardson's accident have not been made public, she apparently demonstrated a "lucid interval" typical of many traumatic epidural hematomas -- a period soon after the impact when the victim is alert and feels well that is followed by a rapid decline into unconsciousness.
